Mapleview Cattle Company, LLC (Madrid, NY) seeks multiple Animal Scientists to work with dry, pre-fresh, and fresh cows to ensure a good start to the lactation process and life of newborn calves, and assist herd manager as directed. Observe and manage fresh cows, ensuring that the nutritional requirements of the cows are met. Improve all areas of cattle management and cattle health by following protocols, contributing new ideas, and advising producers on improved products and techniques that could enhance animal production efforts. Develop and improve practices in feeding, housing, and sanitation of cattle. Conduct artificial insemination and heat detection. Maintain and add findings to herd notebook, Dairy Comp, and maternity log. Observe parlor routine and cows during milking. Manage necessary cow transfers to fresh pens and throughout milking pens. Check pens and packs for lame, injured or sick cattle. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Science, or a closely related field, and 2 years of experience working with cattle or within the food animal industry.
